My Bio

My name is Sergio Mendez, and this is my story. I am a first-generation trailblazer in my family who hopes to inspire others to make a change in their community. I am a 2022 Southeast Texas Legend Scholar under the legend Major Townsend Bell. My major is Biology, and my minor is in Chemistry with a concentration in Pre-Medicine. I have always been fascinated by all of my science courses which is why I decided to focus my career on one of my passions.

Additionally, I am a member of The Honor Student Association, Lamar University Hispanic Society, American Medical Student Association, MedLife, Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS), Lamar Ambassadors, Helping Hands Club, and the HSAcers intramural volleyball team. Through my participation in these organizations, I hope to instill a flame in others to become the future leaders in society by giving back to the community. My parents instilled in me at a young age the benefits of giving back to the community because at one point they depended on the kindness of others. Therefore, I hope to make an incredible change at Lamar University by participating in these organizations

I was blessed with receiving the 2024 Ann Shaw Leadership Award as a Junior, and I owe it all to the incredible organizations, professors, and mentors who have guided me toward receiving this award. I could not be more grateful for this opportunity.
